Water Availability and Wealth - No Surprise

Corps that owned or operated water systems were bringing on over 200 billion a year and yet they were serving only 7% of the population, according to the New York Times. That was in 2002. Access to piped water in the household averages about 85% for the wealthiest 20% of the population, compared with 25% for the poorest 20%. That was determined in 2006 by the United Nations Human Development Report. As of 2010, a later report from the same agency stated “If you live in a slum in Manila, you pay more for your water than people living in London." With such wild shifts taking place in our world's economic system, perhaps the smartest thing for individuals to do is to revisit the basics of life: water, food and shelter.
